Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 512GB/256GB
So much Ultra
12/02/2024 21:02
After 3 years of using the excellent Samsung Fold phones I was eager to drip back into the traditional phone market. When the feature full S24 Ultra was announced the temptation to experience the latest in AI tech and a camera set up to take my snaps to the next level was to hard to resist.
Design.
This is a big phone. Make no mistake about it. The design ditches the fancy and pointless rounded edges and screen for a more traditional slab of glass and solid more angular build. I like it. I like it a lot. It fees nice in hand. The flat screen is easier to operate and looks absolutely incredible. Bright, naturally vibrant and great for multitasking. The titanium body feels great and has a classy look to it. It's a showstopper of a phone and one that feels hardy.
Cameras
Lots of cameras that produce some excellent results in all conditions. I've been greatly impressed by the zoom quality in particular. Samsung have turned down the saturation at last with my photos looking more natural and realistic. Details in shadows look sharp and defined with a good level of detail retained. Really great job this year with the stellar camera set up.
Smarts/AI
AI is everywhere whether we like it or not. And this is where Samsung focused a lot of their marketing. Look some of these features are neat. Camera AI reimaging is fun and useful, circle to search a good part trick and some live translation useful. But i think it's all early days and will improve over time. AI call assist is not as well implemented as competitors and the photo editing is hit and miss. I've had fun playing with the AI smarts but it's not changing my life anytime soon
Overall.
A very very good smartphone. Impeccable performance that never misses a beat. All day battery ....although painfully slow wired and wireless charging, come on Samsung up your game here and stop using old tech. A class leading camera, gorgeous screen and a great design that feels like it will hold up with a few bumps and knocks. Samsung have mostly thrown the kitchen sink at this phone to make it the most Ultra (not Note) phone they have ever made. As for AI. Fun but early days. The promise is there but needs time to evolve.
